Biography
HEADQUARTERS is forged out of minds of RICK AUSTIN and AUSTIN READING. A one-stop shop for creative and production, HQ is rooted in BIG EVENTS, HUGE VISUALS, SHARP COMEDY and INNOVATIVE PRESENTATION – the kinds of shows that Rick and Austin grew up making.
Rick and Austin both got their start at MTV, with Rick beginning his career during the glory days of MTV’s first era. He was instrumental in forging the connection between Hollywood and Music Television, having produced their first-ever movie-related program, THE BIG PICTURE, and helping to create THE MTV MOVIE AWARDS. He has produced and executive produced dozens of event shows, including 15 COMEDY CENTRAL ROASTS, the last two MTV MOVIE AND TV AWARDS, and the ’19 AND ‘20 IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS. Rick has produced over a dozen ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONIES including the upcoming 2020 show, and most recently executive-produced THE DAVE CHAPPELLE AND JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS MARK TWAIN PRIZE broadcasts for PBS. Additionally, Rick produced CNN: HEROES, COMEDY CENTRAL’S ROAST BATTLE, and AMY SCHUMER: MOSTLY SEX STUFF. Comedy, daring narrative, and inventive visuals have all been a staple of his work.
Austin Reading joined the MTV party in the late 90s and went on to produce dozens of events, series, specials and direct hundreds of promos and commercials. From the KIDS CHOICE AWARDS, to the VIDEO GAME AWARDS, MTV Movie Awards, the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS, SCREAM AWARDS, the global launch of XBOX, IHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS, to the MTV VMAs, RADIO DISNEY AWARDS, CMT AWARDS and the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME show with U2. Austin also produced the award-winning series MIXOLOGY, was the mastermind behind the scripted series DEATH VALLEY and recently directed the upcoming STAR WARS game show: JEDI TEMPLE CHALLENGE. Austin’s work is defined by a fun tone, epic scale, and groundbreaking presentation.
